Dearborn I appreciated how her home page was a brief description of her project, it provided a hook for someone who may be interested in exploring the rest of her site. I think that i would add more visuals, and maybe a video to the home page to hook the reader even more. On the “learn more” tab, I liked how it was more visual and included an infographic. I haven’t made one yet but I think they’re really interesting and engaging and I would really like to add one to my capstone website. I also like the links/resources for people interested in her ideas. Looking at her site makes me feel like I have tons of work left to do, but it also seems manageable and I like how it gives all the work I have been doing this year a purpose, which is sharing with a broader audience.
Gottfried I really liked how Lisa’s home page contained lots of visuals and a video. Her subtitles were also very engaging and drew me in to read more about her project. Lisa’s site is extremely professional looking. I think it’s the way she broke up her text with titles, subtitles, visuals, and other relevant content. Her page contains a lot of information, research, and resources but is still visually appealing and engaging. I want my site to be as appealing and informative as hers, and I think if I’m strategic about what I put on there and where, I can do that. After seeing how effective her site is, my caution to myself is to not add too much content to my capstone, and only put what is relevant. I tend to have trouble being concise. My beginning topic was broad and encapsulated a lot, so I need to decide what is really going to be relevant and important to my audience.
Saslow This website is nice and it feels really branded, as in a lot of the content was created by him rather than borrowed from other places. I like the logo a lot, and everything on the site flows really well. It sticks with the toolbox theme and encapsulates all of the other information and resources. Even though I appreciate how much work was put into this site by the author, I think that adding even more resources from other places around the internet could be useful. I have a lot of things saved and I will plan to compile a list of super useful ones that I can place on my site for users to get even more information than what I can provide.
Looking at these sites helped me to get a much more clear idea on what I want my website to look like, but also what I want it to provide for my audience.
About the Author
Welcome to my little corner of the internet! My name is Kayla Bryant, and I am a third grade teacher in Napa, California. I have been teaching for 5 years, and my favorite thing about teaching is helping my students meet their goals- academic, behavioral, or otherwise. Because of this, I have spent the last 3 years implementing goal setting strategies with my students. By setting goals in the classroom, I hope to instill in my students the lifelong skills of responsibility, and ownership of their learning and actions. I want my students to know and feel that they are in control of the learning they do, the things they accomplish, the way they behave, and their future. I want to teach students how to meet their goals, so that they can feel proud of their work and we can celebrate their learning together.
This year, I have been on a journey to try to simplify the goal setting process with my students, and to make it more engaging. One way I have been able to do this is with the inclusion of tech tools in the classroom.
